To be right in the center I had booked a slightly more expensive flight to London City Airport. Shortly before arrival the pilot announced, that City Airport is closed because of a bomb alert and the flight would land at Stanstead, which is even farther away to central London than Heathrow. On the place we were told some transportation would be arrange, but when I asked at the airport information desk I was told that everyone has to get to the center on her or his own. The fastest connectioin is the "Stanstead Express". This train brings one to Liverpool Street Station in about 50 minutes and cost GBP 15.
There I bought a one week zone 1-3 travelcard (GBP 26) allowing me to move around in tube and bus as I like. I used it immediatly to get to Kings'Cross on tube. Nearby is Hotel Arriva. Cheap (GBP 40/night single room booked through HRS) and accordingly simple.
I've seen the Royal Albert Hall on TV and some I liked it to the point I wanted to see it for myself. From the outside I had seen it already many years ago. Strangely enough I didn't remember the Albert memorial right in front of it, though it's so huge you cannot overlook it.
Last time I was not inside, as during my stay there were either no concerts at all or none I would want to listen at. Today's Filmharmonics seems the right thing for me. Music from movies, which is ok for someone like me who is not used to listen to classical pieces, yet played by a real orchestra.
