Setup 1.1 Q: Oberon will not start, saying: 'Cannot find Oberon fonts. Is the environment variable OBERON correctly set?'. What is wrong? A: Oberon needs special fonts. These are located in the directory xfonts. If you've installed oberon to /usr/local/oberon issue the command: xset +fp /usr/local/oberon/xfonts and retry starting oberon. If you're using a XTerminal or XServer software like Exceed, etc. you must either install the fonts in the specific way your XServer desires or use the font mapping mechanism. See Fonts.Text on how to do so. 2. Usage problems 2.1 Q: Whenever I use the page up or down key, the caret disappears. A: You have started oberon with a geometry that is too big for your screen. Try to start oberon with smaller geometry. (hint: start with parameter -g) 2.2 Q: Popup menus do not work. Why? A: Most probably you have enabled ChordMiddle in your XF86Config. Disable the ChordMiddle option in your XF86Config - file and restart X and oberon. 2.3 Q: A program has run into an endless loop. What can I do now? A: Either go to the terminal you've started oberon from and press CTRL-C or use another shell to issue the command 'killall -2 oberon'. A trap viewer will appear and the endless loop is broken.
